REHASWiSS was founded as an association in 1977 by Joseph Aerthott together with friends from Switzerland. Joseph grew up in Kerala, India, then studied psychology in Switzerland and then worked for the Swiss Disability Insurance (IV) in Bern for a long time.
From this experience came the idea of supporting people with disabilities in developing countries, especially on the Indian subcontinent. Knowing that there are no state social services for people with disabilities in India and that people with disabilities are therefore often marginalized in society, Joseph decided to found the REHASWiSS association to provide assistance. In 2017, REHASWiSS celebrated its 40th birthday!
Omkara School of Indian Dance was invited to perform for the 40th Birthday of REHASWISS on 29th April, which also happened to be World Dance Day. The students had a great time performing Folk Dances.
